Rock 'n' Roll Liverpool Half Marathon week has arrived. I am definitely not feeling ready for the running side of things, but am looking forward to the race weekend atmosphere and the post race celebrations (lets hope I can celebrate something!) My approach to this week has been to take things reasonably easy leading up to Sunday (well easy in my books) and limit my running to try and keep my legs fresh and avoid the heaviness that has been bothering them lately.
MONDAY: I stuck to my usual Monday routine of Spinning followed by Body Pump.
TUESDAY: Body Attack class - I loved it this week, and was clearly 'in the zone' as when the instructor challenged us to do burpee-press up-tuck jump combinations as fast as possible in the final track I absolutely went for it. I was dead afterwards; as you will see my definition of 'easy' can be rather loose..!
WEDNESDAY: I resisted the urge to run and cross trained at the gym before my Body Pump class. The gym was dull, I wanted to be running, but I did feel better knowing I had kept to my plan.
THURSDAY: the gym beckoned me again for some more cross training, and I squeezed in a session in between work commitments. Nipping out for a quick, short, sharp run would have been a lot easier but again I was loyal to my plan.
FRIDAY: Rest Day
SATURDAY: a trip to Lincoln parkrun and another bash at knocking some seconds off my current 5k time. After running a 24.11 last week I was hoping to dip under 24 minutes. I didn't though, crossing the line in 24.33. I was disappointed with this, not just the numeric time, but I felt I ran hard again but am not seeming to get the result for my efforts. I was knackered at the end following a very early sprint finish, but reflecting afterwards, it was the middle lap of the three loop course which killed my time. Next week will be the week I go sub 24 - it has to be!
SUNDAY: Race Day - I think my result in this race will literally be dependent on how my legs feel on the day. If they feel good, I might be able to push for a sub 1.50 time. If things are not great, I might be looking at sub 2hrs (which I will be a little gutted about). My PB of 1.47 looks to be unchallenged though. What will be, will be - roll on the Rock 'n' Roll Half!
